Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name for Winona Laura Hoowitz. She was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents named her Winona for her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's dad came from an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder is the younger sister of Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County in California, when she was just seven. The town didn't even have electricity. Ryder was an avid read and often spent her time reading books as there was no TV.
